A research paper and pilot public project on the usage and response to moving image/interactive billboards currently used exclusively for advertising. John Bell will conduct a survey of selected billboards in the regions to find out how the public engage with the billboards in their area. This will be written up as a research paper and then, using the results from this research, a pilot project will be held at one of the billboard sites with a view to delivering a largescale project in the longterm. John Bell’s research paper will be available through print on demand to artists and organisations, but he will also investigate with SCAN the sale of the work to advertising agencies if appropriate (separate research will be undertaken).
John Bell is an artist, architect and lecturer in the field of new technology and design. He has exhibited internationally and has taught at Architecture Association and University of Creative Arts where he is setting up a media art and design research centre. He is based in London
