The event
- Really enjoyed hearing what people were up to and definitely want to continue conversations. (How can this website support that process?)
- How open is the network?
- What can or should the network do?
- How collaborative is the network and its development going to be?
- Was very interested in Helens comment RE: This network could be an advocacy or lobbying force.
Thoughts/notes on the website
- It would be great to grab peoples thoughts what the look & feel should be, i'm currently using a plain template so not much to look at for now.
- Should this website showcase Projects & Residencies? Is that best served on this site or elsewhere? i.e. should blog/discussion be kept separate from the projects or made an integral part. I lean towards the later though would be interested to hear peoples thoughts.
- People can edit (change/add: text, video, images) their own project pages once they have signed up, though an administrator (admin@distributedsouth.org.uk) will have to give them permission to edit content already there.
- What sort of functionality would aid collaborative/creative processes?
- What's missing?
- Will people use it? If not why not?
- Moderating - what's acceptable?
- Let me know about any bugs or confusing elements in the site, I can't fix them if I don't know they exist: admin@distributedsouth.org.uk

Thinking about this from my HV training days Bradshaws taxonomy of need... An exchange system built on individuals needs from basic to survive to those which provide what is felt importnat to an individual.
My art collegues have also been discussing this and felt it is dependant wholly on a trust value system, built on a sound relationship. So does the networking provide a platform for building relationships? How can an artist know when this has happend? Networking appears to provide a platform for knowledge/skills exchange but also is there a need to understand the motivation and intention of the individual? (I guess thinking about egoism and altruism).
?When is networking really affective, is it when it can provide information exchange, including availabilty of resources and future opportunities, transcending ways to set up collaborations and new partnerships.
As you can see the day has really set me thinking about what networking really means to me....

ummmm....the concept of 'network' has made me think too, what does it mean for an artist to be part of the DS network, is this were its amorphous and people drop in and out? ( artists?) What advantages are there in the network (for artisits), what contributions can be made? maybe its easier for organisations to state contriubutions they can make, opportunites that they can open up, explore possible collaborations....
I had made an assumption that one function of the DS network was as forum for discussion and debate of commonalities in practice and aims, e.g residency stuctures, notions of partipation, evalutation, widening audiences, art practice ..
This approach is what lead to my talk about evaluation,(that was my brief) what does it mean, how do we deal with it for it to be useful and effective, what are the implications for DS residencies? How do we navigate evaluation for digital artworks? for networks- Do we care? is it just about accountability - or is it for developement, can it raise new questions?
Anyway to get back to your point Tom, egoism and altruism, motivation and intention; maybe it would have had more value to focus on showcasing my work- to talk about motivation of my work, experineces and plans, maybe that would have been more useful to me? to DS? Not sure this sits well though, with all that expertise and experience in the room, it be good to do more than promote...um?
"trust value system, built
"trust value system, built on a sound relationship"
I like the idea (or aim?) that the network should help develop and support "sound relationships". Simple but to the point.
